The number of LGBT people becoming parents, or wishing and thinking about becoming parents, is increasing with each passing day.
If you’re a female couple looking to fulfil your dream of having a child, here is an overview of the various paths to parenthood available to you.
The two most popular options for undergoing fertility treatment Cyprus IVF Centre are intra-uterine insemination (IUI) and in-vitro fertilisation (IVF). IUI is often the first choice for couples if they have no signs of infertility because it is a shorter way.
IUI involves monitoring the cycle until the eggs are fully mature before injecting donor sperm into the womb at the time of ovulation. In IVF, on the other hand, eggs are removed from the ovaries and fertilised outside the body before being placed in the womb.
How is the sperm selected?
Once you have had your first meeting with a fertility specialist and a personalised treatment plan has been devised for you, you will have a treatment consultation with a nurse.
Donor Sperm Treatment is a form of fertility treatment where sperm from a donor is used to fertilise a woman’s eggs.
At this point, you will discuss your treatment with the fertility specialist. Cyprus IVF Centre has dedicated specialists to ensure you and your partner are guided and supported in this important decision.
Couples have the alternative to use sperm from a donor they have already chosen before starting their treatment. If you don’t yet have a sperm donor, we can also help you to find your very best match from our own sperm bank which includes sperm from donors of various, different ethnicities and backgrounds.
Which tests and consents are needed?
Infectious disease screenings must be undertaken, including HIV, Hepatitis B core antibodies, Hepatitis B surface antigens and Hepatitis C. If you are using your partner’s eggs, then they will also have to undergo donor screening.
What is CMV?
Cytomegalovirus, or CMV, is a virus that can be transferred to a developing fetus before giving birth.
CMV is a common herpes virus group that spreads via bodily fluids. That can also include chickenpox, mono (infectious mononucleosis) and cold sores. Â
What are the symptoms?
Most women who carry the CMV whether pregnant or not, will not develop any symptoms of the infection and may not even know they carry it. People who show signs of an active CMV infection usually experience fever, lethargy or feeling tired like mild discomfort generally connected with the simple cold or the flu, and show no lasting effects once they recover. During infection, the virus is passed through body fluids. That means it can be through exposure to urine, saliva, blood, tears, breast milk, and semen.
Why do I need a CMV test?
There is no possible to be sure of your CMV status without a blood test. You will need a blood test for Cytomegalovirus (CMV) when selecting a sperm donor. If you are CMV positive, your donor can be either CMV positive or CMV negative. However, if you are CMV negative, then your donor should also be CMV negative.
Once the testing has been completed, Team Miracle will work with you to produce the most appropriate treatment for you and your partner.
They will recommend all female couples on the best options for their treatment. You and your partner will be supported on this incredible journey to create your own family.
